Career Services offers a variety of workshops to help you build vital career development skills. The following is a description of our Spring 2012 workshops, all of which will be offered in the Career Services Resource Center in Muller 101. To guarantee a spot, register for workshops in  eRecruiting: once logged in, view the "Upcoming Events" box on the left, click on the workshop title you wish to attend, then click the "Signup" button.


Job & Internship Searches: How To Stand Out In The Crowd

In addition to learning about visible and non-visible markets, the role of networking in the search process, and concrete resources for finding opportunities, in this workshop you'll learn tips and tricks for standing out amongst other job candidates in today's competitive market.

Teacher Recruitment Days Prep Workshop

If you qualify (i.e. you will be certified to teach by August 2012, and graduate between December 2011 and August 2012) and plan to attend Central NY Teacher Recruitment Days on March 26 and 27 at SUNY Cortland, you should definitely attend this workshop. TRD isn't your traditional job fair; there are scheduled interviews and processes that you'll want to know ahead of time.

NetWORK It!: Professional Networking Made Easy

Making connections is critical for anyone who wants to find professional opportunities, however, it can seem like a daunting process. This workshop will examine the different ways that people network and discuss strategies for doing it successfully.

Does your resume or cover letter need a makeover? This workshop will teach you what employers look for when reviewing them, how to capture your skills rather than just your jobs, and how to construct documents that will speak to specific opportunities.

Making The Most Of A Career Fair

Are you ready to dress to impress, shake hands, distribute resumes, and have important conversations with employers at the Spring Job and Internship Fair on February 22? This workshop will teach you about preparing for a job fair, appropriate fair attire, professional correspondences following the event, and yes, even how to shake someone's hand.

NetWORK It!: Using Informational Interviews to Build Your Network

So you've already learned the basics of networking, but now you REALLY want to expand your contacts and connect with people in your field. Come to this workshop to learn the art of informational interviewing, professional etiquette in regards to networking, and how take advantage of Career Services resources to connect with alumni and employers.

No one loves interviewing for a job or internship, but that doesn't mean you can't rock it! This workshop will focus on the key things that you can do to maximize your chance of having great interviews. We'll address the critically important topic of pre-interview prep, day-of strategies, and ways to appropriately follow up after.

Federal Job Search Made Easy

Opportunities with the federal government are vast and varied (and have great benefits!) so don't let the application process intimidate you. Come to this workshop to learn how to find opportunities with the government and step-by-step instructions on how to apply.
