Why intern in Washington, DC?

“I came here (DC) wanting to figure out a few things: whether or not I wanted to be in politics as a career, and whether I wanted to be in DC in the long run.I love politics, I also know that I love my job (internship) and I would certainly not mind doing something like this for the rest of my life. I can see that the things we do are making a difference – affecting legislation, impacting the way people think about policy – and I would like to do something where I can see my work impacting people in my life.”

“When I applied for the Washington, DC Program I had one objective, to find a bit of direction. After the weekend I attended the NGO and sustainability mini course (in DC) and there it was, finally, after all this soul searching, profession dabbling, major switching, I found myself really excited about the possibilities of making a living while helping the world be a better place. Using all the business, marketing, legal skills I have to help emerging economies, indigenous entrepreneurs, and educational initiatives in third world countries.”

"My internship at MSNBC was one of the greatest times of my life. I got to truly immerse myself in political journalism, as well as the culture and history of Washington D.C. It's one of the most wonderful cities in the world and I feel so lucky to have lived and worked there. I interviewed senators, actors, presidential candidates, and other journalists. It made me realize that I want to do this the rest of my life!”

"DC allowed me to explore my career interests, as well as learn about the history that surrounds the city. I am truly grateful for this experience, because it not only strengthened my interest in Health Policy. I also was given a job!"
