Graduate assistantships, available for both full-time and summer-only music education students, offer graduate music students a special opportunity to enhance their professional growth.
These competitive awards provide tuition remission and other monetary benefits in return for various assigned duties within the music school. Many graduate assistants teach undergraduate minor instrument classes in the music education department, while other give private lessons to non-music majors, especially in voice, piano, and guitar.

Assistantship awards come in two parts: a graduate scholarship and a graduate salary. When combined the total award will cover at minimum the cost of full tuition for up to four semesters, the time typically needed to complete a Master's program. The awards for 2008–9 will have a cash value of approximately $25,000 over the two-year period.
All students who are accepted into the graduate program may apply for an assistantship. Assistantship applicants should audition in person and complete all requirements for admission.
Screening will begin 1 March 2008. For details and application procedures, please refer to the Graduate Catalog.
