Growing up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, I was never a child who could sit still. I was always trying to discover new things, investigating how to do things better, and participating in activities that kept me moving. Thus, when I first encountered the field of physical therapy when I tore my ACL at age of twelve, it was not surprising that I immediately fell in love with the profession. Physical therapy combined everything I ever wanted in a career — the constant learning, the caring for people, and of course, the never sitting still. I knew Ithaca College would foster these aspects; thus, when I was admitted into Ithaca College’s Physical Therapy Program and was granted acceptance into the Martin Luther King Scholars’ Program, a program centered on social justice, I knew that Ithaca College was the right choice for me.
Throughout my collegiate career, moments such as working with my first patient in the on-campus physical therapy clinic, researching healthcare accessibility in Ghana, Ecuador and the Dominican Republic, and learning from coursework that was varied and diverse have shaped who I am. Nevertheless, some of the greatest lessons I learned were through the friends that I made, the professionals who mentored me, and the personal growth that I gained through trying new things. Over the past four years, each of my experiences has been a brick in the foundation of my career. It is my plan that as I continue into the graduate portion of my career that this foundation will allow me to deliver quality care as a physical therapist.
