Born and raised in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of northern California, my everyday life as a child and young adult included wonder and adventures in nature. My family is deeply rooted in both the social and environmental sustainability of the planet. This influenced and impacted me deeply. During my environmental studies at Ithaca College, I quickly discovered that my favorite part about the environment was being in it. This realization allowed me to harmoniously pair a social framework of leadership and service in the beauty and clarity of the wilderness as an Outdoor Adventure Leadership major.
Throughout my time at Ithaca College, Howard Thurman’s words spoke to me. He profoundly stated, “Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” I feel most alive and embody a tenacious commitment to service when I am sharing the adventure, healing properties and magic of nature with others. These sentiments came full circle while working with developing youth in a Conservation Corps at the Greater Ithaca Activities Center. I am still unpacking the gifts from my OAL Immersion Semester where I was stimulated by the diversity of the Utah desert and rage of the Green River. I am certain that nature will continue to fuel my passions and service beyond my years at Ithaca College.
