Nick - Outdoor Adventure Leadership
I’m Nick from Illinois. I am pursuing a degree in Outdoor Adventure Leadership and a minor in Art at Ithaca College. I have been fortunate enough to have a wide exposure to all sorts of outdoor activities, including backpacking, rock climbing, white water rafting, mountaineering, snowboarding, and mountain biking. I have found the most fulfillment in fly-fishing.
During my studies at Ithaca College I have gained priceless knowledge and experience related to the outdoor industry. The Recreation and Leisure Studies department at Ithaca College is top notch and makes sure that each of their students is not only on track in the classroom, but is also getting practical and relevant experience. The Immersion Semester is the highlight of the degree and focuses entirely on experience. During my Spring 2016 trip, we climbed in Joshua Tree National Park, backpacked in Oregon, and ran the Deschutes River, to name just a few.
The design of the degree is what sold me on Ithaca College for Outdoor Adventure Leadership. The integration of the immersion semester course and dedication to experience outside of the classroom is a combination that successful prepares students to be outdoor professionals.
During the summer of 2016, after my immersion course, I took my talents to Alaska where I worked as a fly fishing and backcountry guide. I was prepared with the skills I needed and fit into the outfitter role easily.
