Ithaca College

The National Science Foundation has awarded a grant of $140,836 to Ithaca College for support of the project "Multi-wavelength Survey and Analysis of X/M/E Asteroids," under the direction of PI Beth Ellen Clark, Department of Physics.

The grant will fund an observational campaign of main-belt asteroids, using the Arecibo radar and NASA Infrared Telescope Facilities (IRTF). A major research objective is to search for the metallic cores of disrupted asteroid parent bodies.

Physics major Romaine Isaacs (class of 2010) has been involved in the research project, and his work includes synthesizing the radar and infrared results.  Physics staff researcher Maureen Bell has also been working on the project, primarily writing analysis computer
programs for the infrared data.
