Second Annual Wheels for Women Cabaret to Benefit Domestic Violence Victims in India

Contributed by Kathleen Mulligan

The graduating class of Musical Theatre and Acting majors of the Department of Theatre Arts will present an afternoon of music on Sunday, January 27 at 4 PM in the Clark Theatre to benefit the residents of the Sakhi Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence in Kerala, India.

Wheels for Women is a project started by Kathleen Mulligan and husband David Studwell after their visit to the Sakhi Shelter for Victims of Domestic Violence in Kerala, India. Funds raised from the cabaret and raffle go towards the training and licensing of residents in auto rickshaw driving (like taxis in India)- offering these women a path to financial independence apart from their abusers. To date, Wheels for Women has purchased two brand new auto rickshaws for the shelter, and trained and licensed six residents as rickshaw drivers.

Suggested Donation: 10.00

Raffle will also take place for local theatre tickets, etc!
