A new or newly benefit-eligible employee may use benefits in accordance with the following:

  1. Applicable to faculty and staff: medical, dental, life, dependent life, accidental death and dismemberment, and vision and hearing care insurance, offered as part of the College’s Individual Choice program are available as of the hire date provided the employee has completed the enrollment process on or before the first day of work. Otherwise, benefits become effective on the day the enrollment is processed. Long-term Disability benefits are available after the completion of one year of benefit eligible service. Coverage will be effective on the first of the month following one year of benefit eligible service. The waiting period for LTD benefits may be waived if the employee had similar coverage through a previous employer, and the coverage was in effect within 90 days of the employee’s date of hire by Ithaca College.

  2. Tuition remission for the staff employee is available after successful completion of the probationary period and for a faculty member upon completion of one full academic year in a fixed term or tenure track position. Dependent tuition remission and cash awards for dependents are available after the employee completes three years of benefit eligible service. Working less than 100% full-time will impact the benefit service year calculation.

  3. Applicable to staff employees only: medical paid time away may be used as needed. The first allotment of medical paid time away is frontloaded on the date of hire.

  4. Although a new employee is credited with personal and vacation paid time away upon hire, these types of leave may not be used until the successful completion of six months of service.
