Campus residents should be concerned with the safety and handling of College property - in individual rooms and public areas - and should do their best to see that College property is not damaged or stolen. Such respect for the residential environment is crucial to developing a hall or apartment community of which all members can be proud.
You and your roommate(s), suitemate(s) or apartmentmate(s) are responsible for any damage, misuse, or theft of College property that occurs within your room, apartment, or suite. You must pay for replacement, reassembly, or repair costs for any missing or damaged property. Billing for damages is done through the Office of Residential Life and applied to a student's account statement at the Bursar's office. The RA does not, under any circumstances, determine what is or is not billed.
Students can avoid damage billing by the following:
- Carefully complete the Apartment Condition Report/Room Condition Report (ACR/RCR) which was provided to you at check-in to ensure it reflects the condition of your room or apartment.
- Personalize the room in ways consistent with policy.
When damage occurs in a public or common area, the Residence Director will work with students and staff to determine, if possible, who is responsible for the damage.
