FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much prior knowledge of sustainability should I have to live in the Community?

There is no amount of knowledge you should have to live in the Community. Some residents barely know what sustainability is and others are active leaders. It is the diversity of knowledge on the floor that makes the community a unique learning experience for every resident.

What is the major difference between living in this Community as opposed to elsewhere on campus?

The expectations are different in this Community than traditional residence halls on campus. Residents are expected to not just participate in activities but also apply what they learn to their lives at Ithaca College.

How can I live in the Community?

Applications will be made available January 29th, 2007. There is a link to the application on the sidebar. Apply now!

How selective is the application process?

Because of the high demand, the program for Fall '07 was expanded to the second floor. Applicants are chosen based on availability and their short answer responses. There will be allocated space available for first year students. Applications are available on HomerConnect.

How often are residents allowed to shower, wash laundry, etc.?

This is a popular misconception with the floor. Residents on the floor DO NOT have timed showers and do not have limits on the amount of water they can use. One of the goals of the learning community is to teach each resident how to understand sustainability on a personal level. Sustainability is not about what you take out of your life, removing the things you enjoy, but considering what you have learned in your everyday actions, in a sense, giving more back.
