I declared a major in Architectural Studies because I was looking for something new, I enjoyed what I was learning in my first major but no longer wanted it as my main focus. I had never thought architecture would be right for me, and the severity I had heard about from other architecture programs, would have turned me off. But architectural studies felt welcoming, like I would be taken under someone's wing and guided, rather than have to build my identity as a designer up from scratch.
I would recommend "Episodes of Western Art" (specifically with Stephen Clancy). Following art as an idea through history, seeing how it manifested itself in different eras and how art of one cultural episode affected that of a later one, really changed my perspective of what art and art history are about.
