Ithaca Theatre Scene
Ithaca College students, faculty, and staff have found several venues in and around the community to enhance their theatrical experience. The participation of our students in local professional theater, the Kitchen Theatre Company, has grown with the inauguration of the late-night Kitchen Sink series. Our students have proven themselves to be a vital part of the series' success. Faculty continue to perform, direct, and design at the Kitchen.
At the Hangar Theatre, Ithaca’s professional summer theater, students, faculty, and staff are regularly used in performance, management, technical, and design areas. Recently, a work-study program at the Hangar has become available during the course of the school year for a few of our qualified students in the areas of general office help, reading scripts, and arranging auditions.
The Schwartz Center at Cornell University houses the Department of Theatre, Dance and Film and provides Ithaca College students with opportunities to see performances by world-class artists. Faculty perform, direct and design at Cornell. Theatre Arts Management students have held management internships at the Center.
Ithaca College students continue to perform in and produce the summer improvisational group called the Tin Can Fantasy Factory, which tours the area entertaining children and parents.
In addition, a few Ithaca College students have created pre- and after-school programs for children in local schools, playing theater games and giving workshops. One B.A. drama student donated time to provide similar opportunities to residents of Longview, a senior community located near the College.
