Faculty Scholarship
Faculty members in the School of Humanities and Sciences continue their work in research and writing. Their efforts in prose and poetry, theory and criticism, research and teaching are as varied as the disciplines of the school. The following are examples of recent works.
- Assistant professor of writing Jason Ockert published his first collection of short stories, Rabbit Punches, this April. Publisher’s Weekly says, “Ockert’s debut features 13 stories, a host of quirky characters and strange plots grounded in a reality that is as disturbing as it is whimsical. [H]is beautiful and unexpected imagery make him a writer to be watched.”
- Mike Haaf, assistant professor of chemistry, recently published a paper in the prestigious journal Angewandte Chemie, International Edition. His piece, “Solving the Clogging Problem: Precipitate-forming Reactions in Flow” was coauthored by Meredith Cummings ’06, one of his students. Cummings will also appear as his coauthor on an upcoming paper in the Journal of the American Chemical Society.In addition, his team presented research on modified antioxidants and stable silylenes at several of the American Chemical Society’s national meetings.
- Harry McCue, professor of art, was selected to participate in the Everson Biennial Show at the Everson Museum in Syracuse. His oil on paper piece entitled Summer Evening with New Pond was on display this summer. His work was also chosen to be part of Artlink’s nationally juried show. The Contemporary Art Gallery, located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, displayed one of his drypoint pieces, Fat Pig, in June and July.
