UNCF-Merck Undergraduate / Science Research Scholarship
The UNCF-Merck Undergraduate Science Research Scholarship awards are intended to encourage African-American undergraduate students who are interested in science to further their science education and potentially pursue biomedical science careers. The UNCF-Merck awards provide tuition support and opportunities for research experience in a state-of-the-art research facility.
Award
At least 15 scholarship awards will be granted. Each award provides up to a maximum of $35,000, which includes up to $25,000 toward tuition, room and board, and billable fees of the award recipient. In addition, each Fellow will be mentored by a Merck scientist and will receive two summer research internship stipends for a total of at least $10,000. One internship will take place during the summer following junior year and the other following graduation. The two 10-12 week summer internships will take place at a Merck research facility in Rahway, NJ, West Point, PA, or Boston, MA.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be an African-American (Black, non-Hispanic) and a citizen or permanent resident of the U.S.
- Be a life or physical science major with a minimum grade point average of 3.3.
- Be a junior-level student enrolled full-time in a four-year college or university.

Deadline
Applications must be received in the Provost’s Office by December 1, 2009.
Completed applications are due by December 15, 2009.
