The General Instructional Program in Physical Education (GIPPE) provides diverse, skill-oriented physical activities as part of a general education program promoting the physiological development of students, improving their motor fitness and skills, and enabling them to maintain a suitable recreation program of their choice during and after college. A maximum of 6 credits in GIPPE courses, taken as open (free) electives, may be counted toward graduation. Each school or department determines the number that can be counted toward graduation.
There are three ways to register for a GIPPE course:
· Register during advance registration. There is the risk of being automatically dropped from the course if one does not attend the first class meeting. The only exception to this rule will be with prior notice of the absence. A student who is dropped for non-attendance may apply to be added at the next class meeting. (Please note: The instructor is not obligated to drop a student; students who decide not to take the course must follow the regular drop procedures.)
· Register at open registration. The same rules regarding attendance at the first class apply as when advance registering.
· Register at the GIPPE office (room 5, Hill Center) at the beginning of the semester until the end of the first week of classes or show up for the first class meeting. (Second block classes may be added the same way through the first week of the second block.)
All persons who participate in activity courses must have a health clearance on file in the College health center and must sign a "Responsibility of Student in Activity Courses" form at the first class meeting.
