I want to be a PA to make a lasting impact in the community I live in and care for, and to be equipped with the tools to help my patients live healthier, safer lives. As a PA I want to be an agent for change and help bring into practice systems of healthcare that put patient and community need first. To do this means challenging long standing disparities among the communities we work with; communities the PA profession is uniquely oriented to help serve. Of the programs that I interviewed for, Ithaca College stood out as uniquely intentional in the way they educate their learners, with a faculty that's highly motivated to give us the tools we need to make a positive impact on our patient’s lives. The healthcare landscape is in a state of change, with deep rooted problems causing new challenges that disproportionately affect marginalized communities. I chose Ithaca College because I believe they are committed to helping prospective clinicians grapple with these problems both individually as care providers, and collectively as members of the healthcare community. I'm very excited to learn from the others in my cohort! The wealth of experiences, perspectives, and ideas that other learners bring with them will be instrumental in widening my horizons as a student and clinician. This is an unparalleled opportunity that I hope to make the most of during my 27 months as a PA learner!
