From walking my dog to lifting weights, exercise has always been an important part of my life. I started to learn how to perform structured exercise in high school, and knew it made me feel confident and less stressed without knowing the science behind it. I wanted to understand what about exercise altered my body and mind in that way. When searching for colleges and potential career paths, I decided exercise science would be the right major for me. I would finally have answers to my questions and could connect with others about the importance of exercise. When I visited Ithaca College, I knew that was where I was meant to be.
I received hands-on professional experience within the exercise science program by working at the Robert R. Colbert Sr. Wellness Clinic. Starting as a sophomore, I was not confident in myself or my knowledge. My professors knew I was capable, though, and gave me guidance and the opportunity to grow. By my junior year, I was comfortable and confident working with clients and prescribing them appropriate exercise programs. My experiences at Ithaca College have prepared me for professional work by pushing me to my potential and providing me with knowledge and confidence.
