Medical School: The Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) is required. The MCAT is moving to a computerized version in 2007. Since this will be the first year, you can expect some “growing pains”. The exams will be administered at Thompson Prometric testing sites on 20 different test dates. The dates range from January to September. Ideally, you should take the exam when you have completed (or almost completed) your basic sciences. It is also recommended that you take the exam in advance of applying to schools (i.e. between April and July for a summer application). If necessary, you can retake the test in August or September. However, do not use the first test as a practice! If you are truly not prepared, wait until August/September, and study hard over the summer. If
you take it for the first time in August, you will not have a second chance to take it for this application cycle. Also, your scores will not be received by the medical schools until September or October.

Dental School: The Dental Admission Test (DAT) is required. It is given on the computer throughout the year. It is highly recommended you take it by early June.

Veterinary School: Most veterinary schools require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Some also require the MCAT or the Veterinary College Admission Test (VCAT). Find out now what test(s) is (are) required by the schools to which you plan to apply. It is highly recommended you take it by early June. The GRE is offered year-round on computer. Most people will improve their scores with repeated GREs, so you may choose to take the test more than once. The majority of schools will use your highest scores in evaluating your application.

Podiatry School: The MCAT or GRE is required for most Podiatry School. Podiatry schools will consider scores from the spring or early summer of the year for which you are applying for (ex. April 2007 for the fall 2007 entering class). However, it is strongly recommended you take the test well in advance of application if at all possible (normally the spring or summer of the year before).
