The First Ithaca College Latin American Music Festival

A new initiative this year, the Ithaca College Latin American Music Festival celebrates the roots—past and present –of Latin American music. A myriad of cultural backgrounds and influences converge in the compositional idioms and styles of composers that identify themselves as Latin American. The festival will offer a rich array of events, from concerts to lectures and will offer the general public the opportunity to meet the composers themselves. Among the guests stand Ithaca College Karel Husa Visiting Professors of Composition Carlos Sanchez Gutierrez and Ricardo Zohn-Muldoon (both Mexican-American) as well as Cuban-American composer Tania León. The festival will also feature performances by guest ensembles and performers such as Argentine pianist Nancy Roldán, Eastman Broadband, Distractfold Ensemble (U.K) in addition to our own Ithaca College Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, and Ithaca College Contemporary Ensemble.
