  • Douglas H. Armstrong
Douglas H. Armstrong entered the United States Army in 1950 at the outbreak of the Korean War. He attended the Non-Commissioned Officers School at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and Officers Candidate School at Fort Benning, Georgia. He served as an Infantry platoon leader in Korea from August 1952 until 1953 with the 7th Regiment of the 3rd Division. Douglas Armstrong received his Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He taught at the University of Maryland before coming to Ithaca College where he taught Spanish for 27 years. He retired from Ithaca College in 1995.  Each year Doug displays his medals, pictures and memorabilia for all to view that part of important history.  We appreciate all he did for his country and all he does to share with us in our Veterans Day Celebrations.

*Willard Daetsch, retired professor, was involved with the planning of this annual observance from the start, but has since passed away.  Willard also served as a featured speaker for this event in 2003 and his remarks from that day are available here.
