Curiosity Is Good for Business

So you think you might want to be a digital marketer or an entrepreneur, an accountant or a sports agent? Headed to Wall Street or Main Street? Maybe you just love the idea of a business school where you can immerse yourself—through hands on projects and a close-knit learning community. Maybe that’s enough, and you want to figure the rest out later.

"You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something—your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life."

There’s No Need to Stress

Whatever you’re thinking right now is subject to change. In fact, if college doesn’t change your mind, at least a little, it didn’t work. The IC School of Business offers pathways for students who don’t know what they want to major in.  How to start? In your application, choose “School of Business Pathways.” Then, when you arrive, follow the path…

World of Business

Every journey starts with a first step. First-year students in the School of Business take the World of Business course. Explore how the world’s most successful businesses work. Learn about a variety of industries. You’ll join a team and run a simulated company, making decisions about everything from pricing to production. Learn a little bit about all the functions in a company. Start thinking about which part of business might interest you.

Advising

Your World of Business professor will be your first-year advisor. Mentors can be so important as you navigate your path. You’ll also work with a Peer Advisor who knows how to succeed in and out of the classroom. In fact, with peers, professors, career specialists, deans, and even coaches and club advisors in your support network, you’ll always have help in exploring your interests.

The Business Core

The business core is the foundation for every one of the School’s programs. So no matter where you end up, these initial courses will get you there. As a student in the Business Pathways, you’ll study subjects in enough depth to test the intuition you formed in World of Business.

All that said, for some students, their first answer is the right one. You may think you know what you want to study, and you may be right! Let us know your prospective major whenever you know it—from the day you apply until the day you declare (as late as sophomore spring). That way we can start connecting you connect to all the experiences that make four years in the School of Business so immersive.
