Transfer Opportunities

Understand the process for transferring into the combined B.S./M.S. program

Can current Ithaca College students internally transfer into the program?

The occupational therapy program accepts a limited number of qualified, current Ithaca College students as internal transfers into the combined B.S./M.S. program. This is subject to space availability in the desired cohort. When space is available, preference is given to qualified internal candidates. Current Ithaca College students may apply to transfer into the occupational therapy program in any semester up to the fall of the junior year in the program. The following documents provide information on the process for internal transfers:

Please note that changing majors may require you to take additional coursework and spend additional semester(s) on campus to be on track in our program.

What are essential functions?

Any student considering transferring into the occupational therapy program should review the Essential Functions of Occupational Therapy Education at IC. This document was created to ensure that all students entering the program know and understand the requirements of the occupational therapy profession, and can make an informed decision regarding their pursuit of this profession.

What courses should I take if I plan to seek an internal transfer?

Courses students must complete before the junior year include:

  • BIOL 11900
  • CHEM 11000
  • PHIL 101, 212, or 230
  • PSYC 10300
  • WRTG 10600
  • OTBS 10600, 20100, and 20200
  • HLTH 20500
  • and, one sociology or anthropology course.

Students must also complete courses that align with the Integrated Core Curriculum (ICC) requirements. You must be in a math placement in group 1*, 1 ,or 2 to complete upper level occupational therapy courses. If you are currently in a math placement group 3 or 4, you must complete the appropriate math course to move into a group 2.

As the occupational therapy curriculum is very tightly structured from the junior year through the graduate year, it is critical that students complete as many general education and prerequisite courses as possible prior to the fall semester of junior year. Moving directly into the junior year requires careful planning to be sure all requirements have been met. It is strongly recommended that any student who plans to seek admittance as a transfer student contact the department chair to discuss prerequisite courses.

How can I track my progress toward meeting required prerequisites?

A curriculum worksheet for the occupational therapy program can be used by students who are considering applying for transfer to the B.S./M.S. program as a general, unofficial guide to help determine which courses might need to be taken prior to transfer.

Can students currently at an external institution transfer into the combined B.S./M.S. program?

Students currently enrolled at another institution should contact the admissions office to see if we are currently accepting applications for external transfer. The admissions staff can be reached at admission@ithaca.edu

Can I transfer into the program at the master's-level only?

Students who have earned a bachelor's degree in a field other than occupational therapy who wish to apply to our professional-entry graduate program should contact the graduate chair at otgrad@ithaca.edu.
