Italian Studies B.A. - Final entry term: Fall 2021

Students currently enrolled in the above majors will be supported through completion of their degree. (For degree requirements, please refer to the Ithaca College catalog for the year in which you declared this major.)

The Italian program at Ithaca College combines a strong foundation in the language with a variety of courses in Italian literature, culture and translation to fit the most diverse interests. The flexibility of our program makes it ideal as a second major or minor to integrate and enrich any other field of knowledge. And even if you are just an Italian enthusiast or simply curious about Italy, you are welcome in our courses. Additionally, students can take advantage of many other hands-on experiences that the program and the College have to offer.

Teaching Assistantships

Students serve as language drill instructors for our beginning Italian classes. Assistants are paid and work closely with an Italian professor to develop effective drill sessions and earn invaluable teaching experience.

Parliamo! Weekly Conversation and Free Drop-In Tutoring

Students of Italian offer the opportunity to practice the spoken language as well as free, drop-in tutoring for peers currently enrolled in courses at Ithaca College. Student tutors work closely with a faculty advisor, and our aim is always to make language learning fun and meaningful. Weekly sessions take place in the LCEC (Job 209).  Check the link for current dates/times.

Italian Club

The lively Italian Club at IC organizes festive Italian-themed events such as the cannoli fundraiser, regional culinary nights, movie nights, Carnevale and more, that encourage students of Italian and non-Italian descent to unite and celebrate the culture.

Skype with Italian Students, Scholars and Experts

Students in several intermediate and upper-level Italian courses are paired up each semester with peers at an Italian liceo for Skype conversations, writing collaborations and videos. Cooking demonstrations, lectures on translation and on cultural traditions are also regularly organized through Skype.

Study Abroad

Students have the opportunity to study Italian language and culture through the College's summer program in beautiful Siena, in the heart of the Tuscany region, or they may also spend a full semester or a whole year in Italy at one of IC's affiliated programs in Florence or Rome.
