The Ithaca College Homeschool Music Education Program offers free music lessons for children in our local community, ages 9–18. Designed especially for beginners, this program creates a welcoming and supportive space where young musicians can explore instruments for the first time, no prior experience required.

Students can choose from a wide range of instruments, including traditional band instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and more) as well as popular music instruments like guitar, bass, keyboard, and drums. Lessons take place in Ithaca College’s world-class music facilities and are taught by our junior-year music education majors. These college students are carefully mentored and supervised by experienced faculty, creating a learning environment that is both supportive and thoughtfully guided.

The program emphasizes community, creativity, and growth. Families are invited to attend informal concerts and recitals in the winter and spring, where students share their progress in a relaxed and celebratory setting. For our music education majors, this program serves as an important early teaching experience and fulfills a New York State-required field experience for teacher certification. For families, it’s an opportunity to access high-quality music instruction at no cost while becoming part of the vibrant Ithaca College music community.
