BOLD Scholars 2019 - 2021 (Cohort 3)

Ithaca College welcomed their third cohort of scholars in the fall of 2019. This cohort includes Chanelle Ferguson, Carolina Jeronimo, Julia Klipp, Oluwasekemi Odumosu, Taury Phelps, Daniela Rivero, Lesley Rodriguez, Paula Rodriguez, and Gabriela Urbaez-Mendez.

Chanelle Ferguson

Chanelle Ferguson

Chanelle graduated with a BA in Writing and then completed a fellowship year at me too. International. where she was responsible for fostering partnerships for the organization. 

Chanelle is a first generation Jamaican-American, born and raised in Bronx, NY. Chanelle is passionate about storytelling and social justice, and she aspires to be a writer that leaves impact on the world.

Carolina Jeronimo

Carolina Jeronimo

Carolina graduated with a BA in Business Administration. Since graduating she has worked as the Legal Learning and Development Assistant at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP. 

Carolina is a first generation Mexican-American from Queens, NY. Carolina is passionate about social justice and aspires to become a lawyer in the future.

Julia Klipp

Julia Klipp

Julia graduated with a BA in Sociology. They then completed a fellowship year at Active Minds as the Programs Fellow for the Send Silence packing initiative where she executed strategic outreach and event coordination for the nationally renowned suicide prevention display that centers mental health on college campuses. Julia is now the Program Coordinator at Our Minds Matter in Washington DC. 

Julia grew up 5 minutes from downtown Syracuse, New York and she is a graduate of Henninger High School. She is honored to be a first gen college student, and being the first person in her family with the access and resources to pursue higher education has inspired her to advocate for similar opportunities for other students.

Oluwasekemi Odumosu

Oluwasekemi Odumosu

Kemi graduated with a BS in Physics and is now pursuing a master's degree in Public Policy and Management - Data Analytics from Carnegie Mellon University. 

Kemi is a first-generation student from Philadelphia, PA. In addition to her STEM degree, she is very passionate about social projects in low-income communities, as she feels that financial class is the biggest barrier she — and many others — face on the path to success. After graduation, she hopes to serve her community as a member of the Peace Corps or AmeriCorps before pursuing a career in data science or information security.

Taury Phelps

Taury Phelps

Taury graduated with a BA in Cultural and Communications Studies. After graduating she pursued a career in the human resources field. She is currently working as a Human Resource Generalist at Serendipity Labs. 

 In everything that she does, she strives to promote nobility, diversity, productivity, and transparency. In her quest for a meaningful life, Taury believes in and exercises the importance of empathy as a tool for communication, collaboration, and overall success.

Daniela Rivero

Daniela Rivero

Daniela graduated with BAs in Social Movements and Latin American Studies. After graduating she completed a fellowship year at Khuba International, a local Ithaca non-profit organization that promotes sustainable farming among BIPOC communities. 

Daniela is a first generation immigrant from Mexico, and she is passionate about migrant rights, climate justice, podcasts, and magic realism novels. She is most inspired by her beautiful family, by indigenous anti-systemic movements in Latin America, and by the incredible community of faculty and peers in Ithaca.

Lesley Rodriguez

Lesley Rodriguez

Lesley graduated with a BA in Sociology and is now pursuing her MSW at New York University. 

Lesley was born and raised in The Bronx, NY, and is of Dominican descent. She is a first generation student, and her ultimate career goal is to be a Mental Health Therapist, especially for People of Color.

Paula Rodriguez

Paula Rodriguez

Paula graduated with a BA in Sociology. She is now pursuing a master's degree in Restorative Justice at Vermont Law School. 

Paula was graciously raised in a single parent household by her father in Spanish Harlem (El Barrio), where she became more and more aware of the injustices that occur in New York City housing for the lower income community. As a Puerto Rican woman, she chose her course of study to allow her to move forward so that when she graduates she may be able to achieve and see the change for her community and others alike. 

Gabriela Urbaez-Mendez

Gabriela Urbaez-Mendez

Gabriela is pursuing a Exercise Science degree. 

Gabriela is from Brockton, MA, which is a city located in Boston. She and her younger brother were raised by a single mother. Her passions are fitness and health. Gabriela's dream job is to be a trauma surgeon, and be able to travel to different countries and provide resources that many countries do not have.
