Makiyah (she/her) is a first-generation college student from Philadelphia, PA. She uses her schooling to find the intersections between art and liberation. Outside of school, Makiyah is most likely to be found listening to oddly specific playlists of her own creation or cultivating an ever-growing list of books to read for later.

English Major

Hope is a first-generation student from Sacramento, CA, however, she believes that home is where her family is, and right now that is Atlanta, GA. She loves children and has spent as long as she can remember babysitting, nannying, and coaching gymnastics. This love for childhood development led her to pursue secondary education as her major. She hopes to teach English Literature for middle school-aged children and believes strongly in the impacts of intergenerational mentoring. This shows up in her extracurriculars as well — she is the president of the Ithaca College Big Brother Big Sisters club and is excited to be a Residents Assistant for first-years this fall. She is thrilled to be able to be a part of the 5th cohort of BOLD scholars and cannot wait to learn from such an amazing group of inspirational women.

Miriam Brown

She is also involved with Ithaca's chapter of HerCampus, an online magazine, and has written about various topics ranging from the Asian-American experience during COVID to how to de-stress before exams. She is so excited and proud to be a part of the BOLD Scholars and can't wait to be surrounded by some amazing people!
