Dawn Pierce

Associate Professor, Music Performance
School: School of Music, Theatre, and Dance

Meghan’s mission is to provide her music students with a meaningful and impactful music education. She currently resides in the city of Troy, which is just North of Albany in the Capital Region of New York State. Meghan teaches K-5 General Music and Chorus to high needs students at a Title I school (School 2, Troy CSD), which is currently in “Receivership” status with the State Education Department. This is her second year as a faculty member, and Meghan is grateful for all she has learned so far on her journey at School 2, and through the opportunities that the Troy City School District has provided her.

Meghan’s vision is to continue on with her mission, as well as to increase her overall teaching capacity while maintaining a healthy balance of challenge and self-efficacy.

Meghan intends on starting her masters in Music Education within the next few years. She intends to focus on using music as a tool in closing the achievement gap between minority and non-minority students in Title I schools across the country. Other educational interests of Meghan’s include STEAM programs and technology integration, as well as exploring music curriculum such as First Steps in Music and The Quaver Music Program.

In her free time, Meghan enjoys moving her body in various ways (dancing, walking, hiking, running, yoga, aerial circus arts), and making music for her and her students to enjoy. When she’s not in her music room, you could probably find her in the kitchen whipping up something delicious, or spending time with her family and 10-year old Beagle, Sadie.
