Dr. Tropiano is a Professor of Screen Studies in the Park School of Communications and has been director of the ICLA program since its inception in January 1994. He graduated from Ithaca College in 1984 with BS degrees in Television & Radio and Cinema & Photography and earned his master's degree in cinema studies from New York University and completed his doctorate in critical studies at the University of Southern California's School of Cinema and Television. Professor Tropiano currently teaches undergraduate courses in Los Angeles in film history, theory and criticism. In addition to serving as editor of The Journal of Film & Video, he is the author of several books, including The Prime Time Closet: A History of Gays and Lesbians on TV; Rebels and Chick: A History of Hollywood Teen Movies; Obscene, Indecent, and Immoral: 100+ Years of Controversial Cinema; and Saturday Night Live FAQ. He is co-author of TV Finales FAQ and The SNL Companion (with Professor Steven Ginsberg). His forthcoming book, America on Television: Representing Race, Gender, Class, and Sexuality on TV, is forthcoming from John Wiley & Sons.
