I'm Katharine Kittredge, the head of of this Merry Band. I grew up reading the "funny papers," and comics like Scrooge McDuck and Little Lulu. As a coordinator of ITHACON, Ithaca's long-running comic book convention, I have been introduced to many new graphic novels and have come to appreciate their range and complexity. I am especially drawn to graphic memoirs like Fun Home and Hey, Kiddo, but I also love science fiction series like Saga and Bitch Planet.

Hey there! I’m Nina, and I’m a senior studying English, education, and women and gender studies at Ithaca College. I love fantasy, fairy tales, children and YA literature, and graphic novels! I only read a couple graphic novels when I was younger, but I got really into them once I came to college. I like graphic novels because they have a lot of educational value and are a great method for story-telling. My favorites are Shannon Hale’s Real Friends and Cece Bell’s El Deafo.
Hi! I’m Kaitlyn Dennehy and I’m a junior English and Writing major at Ithaca College. I enjoy reading YA literature, graphic novels, as well as contemporary and fantasy fiction. I’ve been reading graphic novels for a long time, and I think they’re a great way to merge the visual with the literary! My favorite graphic novels are Noelle Stevenson's Nimona, Tillie Walden’s Are You Listening, and the Bone series by Jeff Smith.
Hi! My name is Alyssa and I’m a senior English major at Ithaca College. I’m also a Writing and a Deaf Studies minor. I usually lean towards non-fiction essays when I read or write, or just non-fiction in general, as I never was exposed to graphic novels and have never read many myself. But I’m hoping to change that through GNAB!
Hi, I’m Jalen. Currently, I’m in my third year at IC pursuing a degree in English with minors in Writing and Education Studies. I love learning, teaching, and especially enjoy reading and writing. By reading graphic novels, we can find freedom in language and imagination. It’s important to me that all readers have access to the graphic novels that they can see themselves in. Personally, my favorite is El Deafo by Cece Bell.
I’m Julia Hurlburt, a senior English major with a writing minor here at IC. I am notorious in my family for being the kid who read when I wasn’t supposed to; under the table at dinner, walking the dog, and once in the middle of a baseball game. I want to help other kids who escape into the world of comics and books connect with new favorites, and help their adults realize that comics aren’t all just schlock. Favorite graphic novels: Flight, The Sandman series, and the entire Archie Comics catalogue
Hello! My name is Leo and I am a junior English major at Ithaca college, with a minor in writing. I enjoy writing and long walks in the middle of the night to help with said writing. I was raised in libraries of various sizes and have always loved digging through the graphic novel selections. At some point when I was in high school a librarian directed me to some alt/adult titles and I began to expand my repertoire. Some of my favorites include Fantasy Sports by Sam Bosma, The Dark Knight Returns by Grant Morrison, My Friend Dahmer by John Backderf, and Hip Hop Family Tree by Ed Piskor. I am a firm believer in unpolished art styles.
Hi! My name is Violet and I’m a junior at Ithaca College pursuing a B.A. in English with a minor in French. I enjoy reading literary fiction and graphic novels. I began reading graphic novels and comics as a child, but grew into appreciating the great illustrations and entertaining dialogue in graphic novels such as the Bone series by Jeff Smith more as I got older. The most recent graphic novel I read was Asterios Polyp by David Mazzuchelli which is about an architect and professor navigating through his marriage, childhood, and Greek spirituality.
