Faculty can begin to plan and build courses for next term

The LMS Implementation team and Blueprint Review Task Group have finished preparing the Winter and Spring 2022 course shells in Canvas.  As of Friday, November 5 all Winter and Spring 2022 course shells are now available and faculty can begin planning, building, and publishing.

These new courses will have a revised Blueprint and IC Template applied that was redesigned based on faculty feedback. Please note that course rosters will be added before Thanksgiving break, once the registration period ends and rosters have been confirmed.

To find your new Winter/Spring 2022 Course Shells:

  1. Log in to Canvas through apps.ithaca.edu or by going to canvas.ithaca.edu
  2. Click on the Courses button on the Canvas navigation in the left sidebar.
  3. In the pop-out drawer, click All Courses listed at the bottom and scroll through the Unpublished courses. Your new courses will be identified as the Spring 2022 term.
  4. To add your Spring 2022 courses to your Dashboard, from the list of courses click on the star and they will appear in the Unpublished section of your Dashboard.

As a reminder, please do not manually add students to any course(s). Rosters will continue to be updated every 6-hours and will fluctuate during any add/drop period. Faculty who would like sections combined (cross-listed) should contact Canvas Support. For more details and information on cross-listing please refer to the IT Knowledge Base Article.

Your next steps in Canvas - Plan and Build

  1. Log in to Canvas (canvas.ithaca.edu) and locate the Winter/Spring 2022 course shell(s).
  2. Review migrated courses. Compare old courses in Sakai to what was migrated to Canvas. Begin thinking about what content will be used to develop the Spring 2022 course in Canvas. For tips to understanding the Sakai to Canvas transition, visit Module 3 in the Canvas Resources @ IC course
  3. Start organizing materials. Before building in Canvas, list the components needed, for example, files, media, links, individual assignments, discussion prompts, quizzes, and question banks. Note where these materials are located.
  4. Import content from old Sakai migrated or Fall 2021 courses into the new Winter/Spring 2022 course shell.

To help instructors with the above steps please refer to the guide “Planning, Building, and Publishing your Canvas Course,” available in the Canvas Resources @ IC course site.
