Holocaust Survivor, Hanna Wechsler, Speaking TUESDAY 8 PM

By Lauren Goldberg, May 1, 2022

In honor of Yom HaShoah (Holocaust Remembrance Day), Hillel would like to invite you to remember the Holocaust with us. Please join us to speak with Holocaust survivor Hanna Wechsler on
Tuesday, May 3rd from 8:00-9:00 pm in Muller Chapel.

Hanna is a survivor of Auschwitz, the largest Nazi death camp, and has devoted the last 45 years to sharing her invaluable story of surviving against all odds. You can find more details about her life story by reading her bio below.

In the year 2022, we are the last generation to have the privilege of being able to hear these stories from survivors firsthand, so please join us to hear Hanna’s story.

Hanna Wechsler Bio:

Hanna was born in a small town in Poland in 1936.  Her parents were wealthy, and her early childhood was happy and carefree, until 1939 when Hitler invaded Poland and Hanna and her parents went into hiding in the cellar of a barn. They were cared for by Polish farmers until they were deported to the Krakow ghetto.  Using false papers, the family escaped to Hungary, living safely until the Germans occupied Hungary in March 1944.

Hanna along with her mother survived Auschwitz and while back in Krakow they were reunited with Hanna’s father who had been released from Dachau. Hanna has dedicated the last 45 years to educating youth about the horrors of the Holocaust.  Her message – in the face of adversity, one can overcome and prevail.**
