Dear Ithaca College Students,
I hope you are enjoying a restful and rejuvenating summer break! I wanted to take a moment to share some important updates and dates to be aware of pertaining to Ithaca College's Student Health Insurance Plan for the 2023-24 academic year.
For the 2023-24 academic year, Ithaca College has partnered with Aetna Student Health to provide a comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) for students. University Health Plans continues to manage the waiver and enrollment process. I encourage you to visit the Ithaca College University Health Plans website for more information regarding cost, coverage details, and additional considerations.
As a reminder, all matriculated undergraduate and graduate students attending Ithaca College for the upcoming Fall 2023 semester are required to have comprehensive coverage in Tompkins County under a valid health insurance plan. In order to ensure that all students meet this coverage requirement, all student accounts will be initially charged for Ithaca College's Student Health Insurance Plan. Students wishing to opt out of the plan will have the opportunity to waive coverage, by supplying evidence that they are insured with a plan that provides comparable coverage. Students who successfully complete the waiver form with valid other coverage will have a credit applied to their student account equal to what they were charged for the health insurance.
Please be aware that each academic year brings its own insurance enrollment/waiver process and that an election to enroll in/waive coverage does not carry over from year-to-year. If you elected to waive Student Health Insurance Plan coverage for the 2022-23 academic year and would like to do so again for the 2023-24 academic year, you WILL need to complete the waiver form when it becomes available on July 10, 2023. I encourage you to make note of the following important dates:
- July 10, 2023: Enrollment and Waiver Process Open
- Aug. 10, 2023: First Day of Coverage for Students Enrolled in SHIP for 2023-24
- Sept. 15, 2023: Deadline to Submit Waiver Form to Decline SHIP Coverage
