Vocalist Aubrey Johnson and pianist Randy Ingram share a special collaborative
partnership, as documented on their beautiful new recording Play Favorites, released by Sunnyside Records in Nov. 2022 to critical acclaim. A departure from their typical roles as bandleaders and composers, Play Favorites finds Johnson and Ingram highlighting their musical bond with a gorgeous program of jazz standards, Brazilian compositions, and beloved pop tunes. Wednesday’s concert will feature many selections from this album along with other well-known standards.

Aubrey Johnson is a New York-based vocalist, composer, and educator who specializes in jazz, Brazilian, and creative contemporary music. Aubrey teaches in the jazz programs at Montclair University, Queens College, and formerly Berklee College of Music. She has performed and/or recorded with Billy Childs, Jimmy Cobb, John Patitucci, Janis Siegel (Manhattan Transfer), John Zorn’s Mycale Vocal Quartet and Fred Hersch, among many others. Aubrey has appeared on 40+ recordings as a sideperson, including Bobby McFerrin’s 2010 Grammy-nominated release, VOCAbuLaries, Arturo O'Farrill's 2020 Grammy Award-winning album Four Questions, and Lyle Mays’ 2021 Grammy Award-winning Eberhard.

Randy Ingram, pianist/composer, has been hailed as “a pianist of taste and resourcefulness” (The New Yorker) and “a formidable composer” (San Francisco Chronicle). Ingram has released four acclaimed recordings for Sunnyside Records, including 2019’s The Means of Response, an intricate, virtuosic and powerful protest record and a message of hope and solidarity for his young son. Originally from California, Ingram attended the New England Conservatory of Music before moving to Brooklyn, NY in 2003. He has played with leading musicians including John Patitucci, Billy Hart, Jeff Tain Watts, Ari Hoenig, Tierney Sutton, Ingrid Jensen, Joe LaBarbera, Kendrick Scott, Lage Lund and the late Billy Higgins.

The concert is free and open to the public.
