Nominate a Student for Ithaca Seminar Peer Leader Program!

By Elizabeth Bleicher, March 21, 2024

Peer leaders help incoming students make the transition to IC.

Please nominate students to become peer leaders in the Ithaca Seminar Program, in which trained peer educators facilitate the transition to college for first-year students while gaining professional experience and transferrable skills.

We welcome students in every major, and seek to develop a team with a broad spectrum of identities, abilities and backgrounds.

A Peer Leader serves as a welcoming, more experienced resource to incoming students; offers new students a relatable perspective and serves as an exemplar of leadership on and off campus.

What does a Peer Leader Do?

  • Complete a 0-1 credit experiential learning course on facilitating student success
  • Facilitate discussions and/or presentations regarding transition to college life and skills
  • Use a variety of communications to engage first-year students, in and out of class
  • Connect students to resources, each other, and the instructor
  • Encourage use of campus resources
  • Promote and demonstrate respect for all students, inclusive of race, age, ethnicity, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ability, etc.
