Abstract for Empowering Faculty for IPE: Integrating Simulation, AI, and Collaborative Case Design:
In February 2025, HSHP faculty attended the IPEC Institute, identifying the need for faculty development to integrate IPEC Core Competencies and Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice (HSSOBP) into simulation-based learning, while leveraging AI tools to reduce workload and time constraints. To address this need, the project introduced foundational training for all HSHP faculty and an interactive exercise designed to foster interprofessional collaboration in developing IPE simulation scenarios, with the goal of advancing at least one scenario toward implementation.
The intervention consisted of a 45-minute presentation on IPEC and HSSOBP principles followed by a 60-minute group activity. Faculty from multiple healthcare disciplines were assigned to interprofessional teams and tasked with developing a simulation case for an 82-year-old post-stroke patient. Each group received a discipline-specific object (e.g., walker, medication, large-print book) to integrate into their case design. Using structured guidelines, AI-supported scaffolding, and facilitator guidance, teams collaboratively created mid- to low-fidelity simulation scenarios, concluding with a group debrief to reflect on collaboration, strategies, and challenges.
Evaluation employs a multi-stage, mixed-methods approach. Initial qualitative feedback from diverse faculty focus groups (including clinicians and non-clinicians) will inform the development of a broader quantitative survey for all HSHP faculty. This sequential process aims to assess the effectiveness of the intervention in supporting interprofessional education and simulation integration. Data collection and analysis are currently ongoing, with the goal of assessing faculty perceptions of the intervention’s effectiveness in supporting interprofessional education and simulation integration.
