Smart, strategic decision making is one hallmark of a top manager. But there's more: deal-making savvy, a flexible operating style, a knack for moving innovative products to market quickly, a capacity to build employee morale, a flair for public speaking, and good citizenship -- any combination of these attributes may spell success for managers at any level.
Our management concentration integrates practical coursework in areas such as operations, business systems, human resources, marketing, and finance with "big-picture" topics such as leadership, strategy, and organizational structure. You'll gain a solid understanding of the types of day-to-day issues of power and conflict that managers face.
Small class sizes enable business faculty to blend lecture, discussion, and exercises so that students can apply their learning to experiential assignments, internships, and fieldwork. In recent months management students have had such experiences in organizations including Century 21, M&T Bank, the Ithaca Downtown Alliance, and Enterprise Rent-A-Car. In addition, you'll have the benefit of professional skills training and electives in current business topics such as sustainability and social entrepreneurship.
You'll be prepared to manage confidently within a corporation, an organization, or your own start-up.
