CNN's Senior Vice President of Washington and Special Events Programming

Eric Sherling ’96 knew he wanted to attend Ithaca College when he saw all so many students participating at the college television station, ICTV.

As a Television Radio major, he produced ICTV’s game show “FakeOut.” Between  that  and interning at “ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings,” Sherling realized that he wanted to become a producer. “I looked at the Executive Producer of World News Tonight and knew that’s what I wanted to do.”

When Sherling started to apply for jobs, he reached out to alumni who helped him find his first job. “I reached out to an IC alumnus who knew of a news director in Lexington, Kentucky, and because of my experience producing at ICTV, I landed that job in Lexington as a weekend producer,” says Sherling.

After two years of working in Kentucky, he went to WFLA in Tampa, Florida. Hethen moved on to CNN, where he was the Executive Producer for the aftermath coverage of 9/11. Sherling then became Wolf Blitzer’s Executive Producer for nine years. After a stint as Executive Broadcast Producer at  ABC’s “Good Morning America,”  Sherling returned to CNN to help oversee election programming. Currently, Sherling oversees “The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer,” “The Lead with Jake Tapper,” election nights, town halls, debates, and much more.

Sherling says he loves learning and witnessing history, “it is a privilege and honor to ensure that the country is informed so that the public can make good decisions.”
