IC Students Cover the March on Washington

August 2013 marked the 50th Anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Two different groups of students from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College covered the anniversary of The March. One group of students covered the August 24th commemorative events for NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt. A second group covered the August 28th commemorative events for PBS Newshour Online.

With President Obama and many other luminaries scheduled to speak, most of the media's attention was focused on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. PBS asked the Ithaca College reporting teams to swing our cameras around and make our way through the crowd. While we were shooting footage and interviewing those in attendance, we also took to twitter to share some real-time reflections of what transpired through the day.  Click on the link below to see more.

August 28th, 2013 was the actual 50th Anniversary of The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.  I attended the commemoration along with five students from the Roy H. Park School of Communications at Ithaca College. The crowd was estimated at 25,000.  Our job was to capture the day from their perspective(s).
