Alefiya Presswala is a senior journalism major with minors in writing, graphic design and Deaf studies. During the Fall 24 semester, Alefiya volunteered with the Reuse Center and Buffalo Street Books, helping both organizations with daily tasks and advertising. She served as president and editor-in-chief for Buzzsaw magazine and worked as a circulation manager at the campus library and a peer educator at the Unity Center. During the Spring 25 semester, Alefiya studied abroad in Dublin and Copenhagen. Over the summer, she interned virtually and reported on the environmental beat with the Rochester Beacon , an independent, local newspaper based in Rochester, NY. This semester, Alefiya will return to all her previous positions she held last fall. She will also be interning with Project Censored, a nonprofit focused on promoting media literacy and independent journalism. She is excited for the opportunity to continue learning about independent media and how activism and journalism can productively intersect.
