About the Clinic

The Sir Alexander Ewing–Ithaca College Speech and Hearing Clinic is a community-centered facility that provides free speech-language pathology and audiology services to individuals of all ages. Students and faculty work together to deliver compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each client’s needs.

Our clinic serves:

  • Toddlers building their earliest language skills
  • School-age children strengthening speech clarity, literacy skills, and social communication
  • Adults seeking support for voice, fluency, cognitive-communication, or post-stroke rehabilitation
  • Individuals navigating hearing loss or needing routine hearing screenings
  • Older adults experiencing dementia or memory-related communication challenges
  • Individuals who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
  • Individuals pursuing gender-affirming voice and communication services

At Ithaca College, clinical education begins early and grows with you. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students work directly with clients while receiving individualized guidance from faculty supervisors. This model allows you to:

We also partner with local preschools, schools, hospitals, and long-term care communities to extend services beyond campus and give students experience across multiple settings.

What We Do

Prospective students gain experience across many areas of practice, including:

  • Speech Sound Production: Support for articulation disorders, apraxia, and accent modification, helping clients communicate clearly and confidently.

  • Fluency (Stuttering): Therapy to promote smooth, natural speech in children and adults.

  • Voice: Work with clients on vocal strain, hoarseness, healthy voice use, and gender-affirming voice goals.

  • Language: Assessment and therapy for language delays, aphasia, and learning-related challenges.

  • Hearing: Screenings, audiologic evaluations, and counseling for individuals with hearing or auditory processing difficulties.

  • Cognitive-Communication: Therapy supporting attention, memory, and problem-solving skills—often for individuals with neurological conditions.

  • Social Communication: Sessions focusing on conversation skills, social cues, and peer interaction for children, teens, and adults.

  • AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication): Support for clients using communication devices, apps, or low-tech systems.

All services are delivered by student clinicians under the supervision of licensed, ASHA-certified faculty to ensure both high-quality care and rich clinical learning.

In Clinic Schedule & Session Structure

During the academic year, clients are scheduled for weekly 50-minute sessions, either individually or in small groups. Evaluations occur throughout the semester. Student clinicians participate in all aspects of planning, implementing therapy, collecting data, and writing documentation.
