Description
The student must not only demonstrate a strong commitment to the learning of a foreign language and its corresponding culture, but must also show promise of continued dedication to these after graduation.
Criteria
- Overall scholastic excellence, especially in the category of modern language courses (especially advanced courses)
- Excellent classroom participation and engagement in the target language
- Evidence of strong commitment to language (service as a language Teaching Assistant, Study Abroad experience, further study of a second foreign language)
- Membership, active involvement and leadership in a range of language activities outside the classroom
Eligibility and Application
Graduating seniors majoring in French, German, Italian, and Spanish are nominated by DMLL faculty for consideration. Each language section may nominate one or two students for the award. Nominators should include as much information as possible regarding the criteria outlined above. In the event that many excellent nominations are received, additional students may be awarded certificates of merit.
