Rainbow Reception Frequently Asked Questions
Graduating seniors and graduate students who choose to participate receive commemorative graduation honor cords for use during the college graduation ceremony if they wish. The event features music, light refreshments, and remarks by special guests. Family and friends are also welcome to attend.
All who support our LGBTQ+ students are welcome. If you would are a graduating student who would like to attend and receive your rainbow honor cords, please register. Who can attend the Rainbow Reception?
All who wish to celebrate the accomplishments of our LGBTQ+ and allied seniors and graduate students are welcome at the upcoming Rainbow Reception.
Do I have to be a member of the LGBTQA+ student groups in order to participate?
No! Being a part of one of the student groups is not required – this event celebrates the accomplishments of all LGBTQA+ and allied seniors and graduate students at Ithaca College.
I am a graduating senior or graduate student and want to participate. What do I do?

My degree requirements will not be complete until June, or October, or December 2022. When is my Rainbow Reception? When will I get my honor cords?
Now! The Rainbow Reception is held once each year, and honors all students graduating in spring, summer, fall, or winter 2022! Be sure to register here, and attend so you are honored.
I am an LGBTQ+ or allied graduating senior or graduate student. Can I invite my parents/friends/family/professors?
My family cannot/will not attend to support me. What should I do?
Each year, many students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members gather to support and celebrate our LGBTQ+ and allied seniors and graduate students at this special event. Our famous “stand-in” parents will also be there to support you. There will be cheering for everyone, and more than enough well wishes to go around. Come and feel the appreciation!
I know some LGBTQA+ and allied seniors or graduate students who might want to participate, but they haven’t heard about this great event yet. What should I do?
Spread the word amongst students that you who know may be interested! Encourage them to register online.
What happens at the Rainbow Reception?
Graduating seniors and graduate students who choose to participate receive special rainbow-colored graduation honor cords, or honor stoles for graduate students. We invite honorees to make brief comments if they wish. The event features music, light refreshments, and remarks by special guests.
