Rainbow Reception Frequently Asked Questions

Graduating seniors and graduate students who choose to participate receive commemorative graduation honor cords for use during the college graduation ceremony if they wish. Their names and activities will be listed in the event program. The event features music, a buffet of light appetizers, and remarks by special guests. Family and friends are also welcome to attend. This year we will again welcome a featured alumnus to share words of encouragement and wisdom.

All who support our LGBTAQ+ students are welcome, and registration is required. If you would like to attend, please click here to register. If you have any questions, please see the FAQs below. Who can attend the Rainbow Reception?
All who wish to celebrate the accomplishments of our LGBTQA+ and allied seniors and graduate students are welcome at the upcoming Rainbow Reception.

Do I have to be a member of the LGBTQA+ student groups in order to participate?
No! Being a part of one of the student groups is not required – this event celebrates the accomplishments of all LGBTQA+ and allied seniors and graduate students at Ithaca College.

I am a graduating senior or graduate student and want to participate. What do I do?
Visit this link and click the registration button to register by Friday March 29, 2019. You will be asked for the information you wish to be included in the program.

I am not graduating. Can I attend to support my friends? Can I attend to see what I have to look forward to when I am completing my degree?
Yes! Visit this link and click the registration button to register by Friday, March 29, 2019.

My degree requirements will not be complete until June, or October, or December 2019. When is my Rainbow Reception? When will I get my honor cords?
Now! The Rainbow Reception is held once each year, and honors all students graduating in spring, summer, fall, or winter 2018! Be sure to register here, and attend so you are honored.

I am an LGBTQA+ or allied graduating senior or graduate student. Can I invite my parents/friends/family/professors?
Yes! Register them as your guests when you register online by Friday, March 29. (Guests who are affiliated with IC, students, faculty, staff, or alumni, are asked to register separately.)

My family cannot/will not attend to support me. What should I do?
Each year, many students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members gather to support and celebrate our LGBTQA+ and allied seniors and graduate students at this special event. Our famous “stand-in” parents will also be there to support you. There will be cheering for everyone, and more than enough well wishes to go around. Come and feel the appreciation!

I know some LGBTQA+ and allied seniors or graduate students who might want to participate, but they haven’t heard about this great event yet. What should I do?
Spread the word amongst students that you who know may be interested! Encourage them to register online by Friday, March 29.

What happens at the Rainbow Reception?

We invite honorees to make brief comments. Their names and activities are listed in the event program. The event features music, light appetizers, and remarks by special guests.

Can alumni of Ithaca College attend to support current LGBTQA+ students?
Of course! Register online at this link by Friday, March 29. Spread the word to other alumni who may wish to attend!

The Harvey Milk Award which is presented to a student for outstanding efforts to increase awareness and visibility of LGBT issues at Ithaca College.

The Sylvia Rivera Award that is presented to a student for providing outstanding service to the LGBT community at Ithaca College.

The LGBT Ally Award that is presented to a member of the campus community for outstanding efforts as an Ally to the LGBT community at Ithaca College.
