RESPECT Model

Health Literacy Universal Precaution Strategy
RESPECT Model: Cross Culture Communication Tool

Strategies to improve health literacy skills often revolve around improving communication.  For example:

  • Clear Communication
  • Confirming Understanding
  • Cross Cultural Communication

The Office of Minority Health provides a tool kit for cross cultural communication as a part of Think Cultural Health's Guide to Providing Effective Communication and Language Assistance Services.  One of the resources is called the RESPECT Model.   We have incorporated this model into all of our health literacy presentations instead of creating it as an after thought or a tag on.

RESPECT Model Discussion

Our Gerontology Programs Manager in collaboration with Ednita Wright, PhD, LMSW, CASAC,  took an opportunity to discuss the RESPECT Model in relationship to cross cultural communication and improving low health literacy.
