Gerontology Course Project Spotlight

Sociology of Aging (GERO-22000)

The Aging & the Life Course Project is an enduring and much anticipated part of the Sociology of Aging course each fall semester. In small groups, students meet with people who live at Longview for a series of 6 themed discussions focused on early life experiences, family, work, retirement, and health. In addition to the learning that occurs in the context of these formal discussions, a great deal of learning occurs in the informal discussion and sharing of experience and wisdom that occurs. Students write a detailed paper chronicling the life history of their Longview partner and a second paper that positions their discussions within course content. It is a great opportunity for students to get off campus and learn while doing, and it provides meaningful intergenerational exchanges for everyone involved. We’re already looking forward to next fall!
