Website Makeover

Chances are, if you’ve logged onto Ithaca’s home page lately, you’ve noticed some major changes. For the past year Ithaca’s web team, composed of individuals from the marketing communications, information technology, and admission offices, worked on giving the site an extreme makeover.

Launched just before the school year began, the site sports not only a new design, but also a new, complex infrastructure of databases, content management systems, and dynamic content. The content management aspect allows site managers, such as a department administrator, to easily change a page’s content without knowing difficult codes. “It is a very complex site,” says Joanne Hindman, website content manager and member of the creative team, “but most visitors wouldn’t know how much work went into it.”

The design, which stays consistent throughout the first several “layers” of the site, creates a brand identity for Ithaca College, which is important when often the website is the first introduction to IC for a potential student. “The new site,” says Tom Torello ’87, director of marketing communications, “makes a much more powerful—and accurate—first impression. It conveys the energy and engagement that our students are experiencing.”
