The Center for Faculty Excellence, Learning & Innovative Technologies, Student Accessibility Services and IC Library are collaborating to offer a series of Winter Webinars and asynchronous modules for faculty as they prepare for their Spring 2023 courses. 

List of Sessions

These session formats include synchronous zoom and asynchronous Canvas modules.  

Week of Monday, January 9th – Friday, January 13 

Perusall, a Social eReader to Engage your Students around Text
Register in IC ENGAGE 
Dates: Jan 9 –13. 
Format: Asynchronous Canvas Module.  
Please join a group of faculty and staff to explore Perusall, an online tool that makes it possible for a group to read a text, annotate and discuss it online and asynchronously. There is a 30 min optional zoom introduction on Jan 9 at 11 am 

Student Response Systems and In-Class Polling Roundtable

Date: Tuesday, January 10 
Time: 11:00 AM – 12:15 PM 
Format: Synchronous Zoom Session 
Description: This Roundtable will feature short presentations from several faculty who use the most commonly-used tools at Ithaca College, such as Top Hat, Mentimeter, Socrative, Kahoot, Zoom Polling, and even Canvas Quizzes. Facilitators and panelists will discuss participants' goals and considerations for choosing a particular tool or strategy. 

The Media is the Message: Canvas Studio and Kaltura in your Course

Date: Wednesday, January 11 
Time: 11:00 AM – NOON 
Format: Synchronous Zoom Session 
Description: Canvas Studio is a media tool that allows instructors and students to actively create and share video and audio-based conversations in the media timeline. This introductory workshop will review options for using this powerful tool in your courses and contrast it with other tools available to the IC community, such as Kaltura and VoiceThread. 

Adding Course Materials with just a few Clicks Using a Reading List in Canvas (IC Library)

Format: Synchronous Zoom Session 
Description: Attendees will discover how to create a resource list, which includes books, ebooks, articles, video and more using the Course Readings (Leganto) tool in Canvas. Presenters are Ben Hogben, Access Services Manager and Terri Ann Coronel, Electronic Resources Librarian. 

Making your course accessible to students (SAS)

Date: Friday, January 13. 
Time: 11:00 AM – NOON 
Format: Synchronous Zoom Session 
Description: Designing an accessible course makes it more usable for all students – not just those who receive accommodations. In this session, we’ll look at some low-stress ways to build accessibility into your course and review general principles to help you develop a fundamental understanding of what makes a course (or course element) accessible. The goal of this session is to give both beginners and more experienced users an overview of some core principles to follow to produce accessible content and provide actionable steps to apply these principles in your own courses.

Streamlining Grading and Feedback: Time saving tips.

Description. In this session you will explore creative strategies for streamlining your grading and feedback process that include leveraging Canvas and other technologies. 

Syllabus-driven Course Design

Date: Wednesday, January 18 
Time: 2:00 PM- 3:15 PM 
Format: Synchronous Zoom Session: 
Description: Canvas course that is driven from the Syllabus will help you make it easier for students to stay on track with the weekly schedule,  find content and assignments, and know how they are progressing and being graded.  Participants will be encouraged to bring a copy of the syllabus for one of the spring 2023 courses. 

Canvas Open Office Hours 

Need help building or revising your Spring courses, or just wondering how to do something in Canvas? This open workshop space supports Canvas users of all levels to design and create the lessons and resources they envision in Canvas. Facilitated by members of L&IT and the CFE. 
Drop-in in person in Gannett 319 or in Zoom. See options below.
