The Clock Is Ticking! Apply by March 7 to Present at IC's Premier Academic Symposium

By Kelly Stern, February 15, 2024

You're already doing the work for class; this is your chance to share it!

You choose whether to present a print or digital poster, give an oral presentation, or showcase your creative work at the campus-wide James J. Whalen Academic Symposium on Thursday, April 11.

To participate, you need to submit your 250-500-word project summary (“abstract”) via the Online Submission Form by Thursday, March 7, 2024. (If you would like to be considered for an award, your project summary must be a bit longer—between 500 and 700 words.) After you submit the form, you will receive an email detailing your next steps.

New in 2024:

  • We're excited to announce the addition of a sustainability track: Highlighting Energy & Sustainability Research and Creativity! The cross-disciplinary energy and sustainability work that increasing numbers of IC students are participating in will now be highlighted as part of the Whalen Symposium. These projects help Ithaca College and upstate New York communities address the complex challenges associated with climate change. Separate awards will be presented in the sustainability category. To participate in this category, select "Sustainability" from the school dropdown menu when you submit the Whalen Abstract Submission Form.
  • A limited number of digital poster presentations will be accepted. Please select “digital poster” from the presentation type dropdown menu when you submit your Whalen Abstract Submission Form. Save your presentation as a pdf and bring it to the Symposium on a flash drive that has been formatted for Windows computers.  (If you have already submitted your abstract and would like to present a digital poster, please email whalen@ithaca.edu.)

See the Whalen Symposium website for more information. Email whalen@ithaca.edu if you have any questions.

We look forward to receiving your abstract by March 7 and to celebrating YOU and your research or creative work on April 11!

Sincerely,
The Whalen Symposium Committee
