On Thursday, March 21st at 1:10 pm in the Klingenstein Lounge, filmmaker, and 'Immersive Media Explorer' Becky Lane will spearhead a discussion on how Virtual Reality (VR) has been touted as a game-changer in education, and question if it is living up to the hype.  This session explores the state of virtual and augmented reality in 2019 and shows how educators can leverage emerging technologies to improve learning, enhance comprehension, and increase empathy.  Best practices, caveats, current research and how to get started will all be discussed.

Summer Grants for Faculty Research are intended to support post-terminal degree scholarly endeavors for full-time continuing Ithaca College faculty and faculty regularly employed on at least a half-time basis. Awards provide $3,350 in compensation for eight weeks or full-time research.  Proposals are due in the Center for Faculty Excellence, 316 Gannett Center, by Friday, February 22. On Thursday, March 21 at 9 AM in the Klingenstein Lounge, Bill Weis a nationally recognized leader in the application of voice activation technology will lead a discussion on how this technology can enhance the quality of life for individuals with neuromuscular / neurological diseases, and spinal cord injuries resulting from accidents, viral infections, and military related injuries.

Dr. Donathan Brown, Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, and H&S Director of Faculty Diversity and Development, has been awarded a 2018 U.S. Fulbright Specialist Award. Dr. Brown will be housed within the National Institute for Higher Education in Minsk, Belarus, giving lectures and leading workshops to faculty members on topics ranging from academic publishing to teaching diverse students. Dr. Brown was selected for this award through a multi-layer, international review process.

Dr. Brown was also a 2017 U.S. Fulbright Professor to the University of Maribor, in Slovenia, where he taught courses and created curriculum in his area of expertise, race and American public policy.   

Congratulations to Dr. Brown on this prestigious award!

Andy Smith presents research on the show, "Tell Me Something I Don't Know".

He was a guest on the show "Tell Me Something I Don't Know", a podcast hosted by Stephen J. Dubner, co-author of Freakonomics. Andy was interviewed about his research on slug glue and its potential for bio-inspired medical adhesives. The episode was called "All about bugs (of the animal and computer varieties)" (episode 32). The episode was aired on Oct.22 and is available at the website  http://tmsidk.com/

Through volunteering at both Cayuga Medical Center and at Upstate Medical Center, I have gained more of an interest in Emergency Medicine. I am most interested in Orthopedics and Cardiothoracics.”
