Canva Templates

Canva Enterprise at Ithaca College includes a variety of pre-designed, on-brand templates for commonly used materials, such as flyers, Optisigns slides, pop-up banners, signage, event promotion, and more. We plan to add new templates based on campus needs on a continuous basis.

How to find templates

When you navigate to your Canva home page, you'll see a 'starred' folder in the left navigation called "IC Templates". You can browse this folder for all of our publicly available templates.

You can also search for templates– we have named templates based on their function. Click the homepage search bar and then choose 'brand templates' from the 'type' dropdown.

For more information about how to find our brand templates, visit https://www.canva.com/help/using-brand-templates/.

If MarCom has designed custom templates for your school, division, or department, they will be found in a separate folder titled "Unit Name Templates". To keep these folders handy, we recommend you 'star' them to keep them easily accessible in the lefthand navigation.

When to use a template

It is especially important that we stay on-brand with external audiences, including prospective students, their families, and alumni. Prospective students are just beginning to build their relationship with our institution, and consistency is key in building trust and connection. Alumni desire a sense of nostalgia, so sticking with the familiar (core colors, iconic imagery) is key in making our communications resonate.

When considering whether to use a brand template, consider the audience. If the materials will likely be distributed to prospects or alumni, please use a template or contact us for support. For internal-facing materials, there is more flexibility to explore tone, style, and presentation.

If you're creating something from scratch for internal audiences and are unable to follow brand guidelines closely, it’s often better to omit branding altogether than to use it incorrectly or inconsistently. Half-branded materials—those that use some brand elements but ignore others—can create confusion, dilute the brand’s impact, and make the communication feel less credible. A clean, unbranded document– or something completely unique– will likely be more effective than one that misrepresents or weakens the brand.

Please contact us if you have questions about whether or not a template is appropriate for your project.
